Check’s Epoxy has installed sports courts across the East Valley since 2004, and Tempe is the oldest housing stock in the East Valley — neighborhoods platted and built from the 1940s through the 1980s, decades before most of the surrounding suburbs existed — which shapes the job more than most homeowners expect.
A sport court takes a different kind of abuse than a garage floor — constant UV, foot traffic and ball impact instead of tire heat and oil — so it gets a different system: a UV-stable acrylic surface over a properly prepped and primed slab, not a garage coating repurposed for outdoors.
Tempe’s slabs are the oldest we work on in the East Valley — many poured in the 1940s and 50s, decades before the newer suburbs around them broke ground. That means more settling, more cracking, and often a stack of old repairs and prior coatings to grind through before a new floor can bond.
