Why not just acid-etch the concrete instead?

Etching is a chemical scuff and it is inconsistent — it does almost nothing to a slab that is sealed or power-trowelled hard, which describes most garage floors. Grinding cuts an even mechanical profile across the whole slab, which is what a coating actually keys into. Nearly every failed floor we are called to replace was etched rather than ground.

Is it as dusty as it sounds?

No. We grind with dust-controlled equipment running to HEPA extraction, so the vast majority is captured at the head rather than ending up through the house. It is not surgically clean, but it is nothing like open dry grinding.

Can you remove an existing coating?

Yes — old epoxy, failing roll-on kits, sealers, mastic and glue all come off back to bare, sound concrete. How long that takes depends on what is down and how well it stuck, which is why we would rather look at it in person than quote removal blind.

My slab is brand new. Does it still need grinding?

Yes, and arguably more than an old one. Production builders spray a curing compound on a fresh pour and it stays on the surface — it is designed to seal the slab, which is exactly the property that stops a coating bonding. It cannot be washed or etched off. A new slab may also still be releasing moisture, which we check for before anything goes down.
